Memory Testing (Memory Loss)

If you or a  loved one suffer from memory loss or considerable forgetfulness, memory testing can be helpful to  diagnose and manage your loss of memory.

Forgetfulness happens to the best of us and may be due to several factors, including old age (benign senescence) or head injury (concussions or brain trauma due to car accidents, sports, or on the job accidents). In other cases, forgetfulness can be due to depression or metabolic problems, such as hypothyroidism. Early neurological problems (mild cognitive impairment) can also be the source of memory problems.

In addition, lack of sleep or sleep problems (sleep apnea) and proper nutrients can impair brain functioning and effect memory. In certain situations, these conditions can be reversed or controlled. In true dementia, the differentiation or cause of dementia (stroke, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s) dictates which medication is most appropriate for that particular patient.

A memory evaluation should be conducted by a trained neuropsychologist to determine the level and extent of brain functioning, the reasons for difficulty and how to best manage the memory loss.

Specialized memory assessments or diagnostics for dementia and geriatric populations, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease are available.
